In February of 1923, prospector John Campbell Miles discovered lead ore while travelling through what is now known as Mount Isa.  This year, 2013, marks the 90th year of his discovery.  The region continues to hold a very strong importance for the economy of the state of Queensland, being a world class ore deposit, worthy of international recognition.  Mount Isa is a special place for me, having been my home for the last 18 years. The lifestyle is second to none and the people are the heart of the community.

Tonight I photographed the sun setting over Xstrata mine and the town, highlighted by the 90 year logo on the Urquhart Shaft.

Over the coming days I want to share a few other photos of Mount Isa and what it means to me.  I hope you enjoy the series as much as I have enjoyed photographing them.
